How It Works

The building system

The HempPod is built on a Structural Insulated Panel System (SIPS) made from hemp bio-boards with an organic core. Walls, floor and roof use the same family of engineered, interlocking panels — so ~90% of the home has a known, reliable, local supply chain. Only electrical, plumbing and appliances are sourced outside.

From seed to home in ~100 days

Grown by local farmers, engineered into panels.

We contract local farmers using regenerative practices. One hectare of hemp — grown in about 100 days — yields the ~8 tonnes needed for a 60 m² dwelling. That hemp is compounded into bio-boards for the SIPS, and into kitchen, cabinetry and flooring.

The panels

One panel family for the whole shell.

Walls

90 mm SIP with R2.5 organic-core insulation; H1 water- and fire-resistant external skin (colourable, paintable or sheetable); primed hemp-board internal lining; conduits cast in for services.

Roof

50 mm sandwich panel with H1 skin; sealed or Colorbond-equivalent steel with optional solar.

Floor

Interlocking SIP panels with H1 floor board and a waterproof/fireproof “Hulk X” underside, anchored to screw piles.

Foundations — screw piles, not concrete

We swap a carbon-intensive slab for screw piles.

We replace carbon-intensive concrete slabs with a SIPS floor on screw piles: steel piles with helical plates driven into the ground for stable, long-lasting support. A concrete slab of this size emits ~4 tonnes of carbon; our flooring system sequesters ~4 tonnes instead.

Flat-pack or fully assembled

Choose how it arrives.

Choose a flat-pack kit or a complete modular home delivered fully assembled. Each 60 m² module travels as one pre-assembled unit (~8 t) on a specialised hydraulic trailer. On-site works — verandahs, carports and final finishing — are completed after delivery, typically in 2–4 weeks.
